Seats of Scholars Step-By-Step Task List

Postby UmmHamzah » Wed Feb 28, 2007 9:40 am

Assalamualaikum,

Here are some suggested guidelines and step-by-step task list.

1. Have a list of possible classes with duration of each part (this would have to be done ahead of time and we should have the list available for reference at all times)
2. Have list of prizes (for locals, things from Salama bookstore, and for non locals, maybe gift certificates from Ilmquest) OR not, depending on which is easier, but it would be better to have everything ready on stand by
3. Should be at least 3 weeks between classes (classes should be too close to each other)

Step-By-Step Task List

1. Pick lecture for next class (refer to list of possible classes)
2. Determine when classes will be held (which and how many weekends, take into account other ongoing local events when planning this)
3. Prepare flyer (Deadline – 2 weeks before class)
4. Make notes both skeleton and full (Deadline – 1 week before class)
5. Make up exam questions & answer key (Deadline – 1 week before the Reloaded Exam)
6. Distribute flyer (Start distributing 2 weeks before class)
7. Post announcement & upload files, newsletter on Columbus Dawah
8. Send email (include link to newsletter)
9. Send reminders (Thursday for people outside the United States & Friday for people in the United States)
10. Conduct the Reloaded Exam
11. Upload exam questions & answer key (Monday right after the Reloaded weekend)
12. Send email announcing availability of exam question & answer key for those who didn’t take the Reloaded Exam
13. Give prize to the Reloaded winners
14. Make newsletter (Deadline – until the next class is decided)

Wa `alaykumussalaam wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatuhu

Jazaaki Allaahu khayran for posting this. This will help, in shaa Allaah, anyone that will be managing Seats of Scholars in the future.
`A'isha, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him),
reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying:

Kindness is not to be found in anything but that it adds to its beauty
and it is not withdrawn from anything but it makes it defective.

Well, that comes with a price unfortunately :P

You don't know how long it took me to plan a weekly menu years back when I first started doing it. It takes me so long to come up with things like this, but I guess I'm seasoned now, and from my experience and maybe it suits my personality as well, I do find that it's much much easier in the long run even though it takes a lot of time in the beginning. All that experience really helps when I started homeschooling, though I still find teaching 3 kids at the same time quite challenging especially when I'm explaining things to one and the other one comes in with a question that can't wait. Imagine how it's going to be when a little one comes into the picture. I stil wonder how those mothers cope (homeschooling multiple children with a new baby).

Anyway, I might have made some mistakes (I did this while doing something else too, so expect to find errors in there), so feel free to point them out.
